Tottori "Bird" Stadium
Tottori City, Tottori Prefecture
Tottori "Bird" Stadium is one of several venues which demonstrates that the lower divisions of the J.League have nearly as much variety and quality in sports facilities as the top clubs. Although it is not football-only, Bird Stadium has a very cozy feel to it, and the unique design of the central roof sets it apart from the crowd of similar, small-town athletic stadiums.
"Bird" Stadium is a bit off the beaten track, but its high-quality sporting facilities (including training rooms and other practice fields) wereimpressive enough to lure the Ecuador national team to use the location for its base camp in 2002. The stadium is about a 15 minute walk from the nearest train station, but it is served by city buses and is reasonably convenient to get to. In 2011 it became a J.League venue as the local club, Gainare Tottori, earned promotion to the J2. |
